# Objection handling

Objection handling is how a seller responds when a prospect raises a concern or a reason not to move forward, such as price, timing, an existing vendor or no need, by finding the real issue and answering it.

## What Is Objection Handling?

**In short:** Most objections fall into a few groups: budget ('too expensive'), authority ('I'm not the right person'), need ('we're fine as we are'), timing ('not now') and status quo ('we already use X').

A common method is to listen fully, acknowledge the concern, ask a question to find what sits behind it, answer that specific point with proof and then check that it is resolved.

It matters because an objection is often a request for more information, not a final no. Reps who argue lose the conversation; reps who ask a good question learn whether the real issue is price, risk or a missing person in the deal.

## Objection Handling Example

Example: a prospect replies to a cold email, 'We already use a competitor.' Instead of pitching, the SDR answers: 'Makes sense, most teams we talk to use one. Does it cover LinkedIn as well as email, or just email?' The prospect says just email and agrees to a 20-minute call.

## Objection Handling in Practice

In outbound, objections arrive as short replies: 'not interested', 'send me info', 'we have a vendor', 'reach out next quarter'. Teams that write a short standard answer to each, and follow up on 'not now' on the date the prospect gave, turn a share of them into meetings.

## FAQ

### What are the most common sales objections?

Price ('too expensive'), timing ('not now'), authority ('not my decision'), need ('we don't need this') and status quo or competitor ('we already use something').

### What is a good objection handling technique?

Listen, acknowledge the concern, ask a question to find the real issue, answer that issue with proof and confirm it is resolved before moving on.

### How do you handle a 'not interested' reply to a cold email?

Respect it, and if the email gave a reason, ask one short question that tests it, for example whether timing or fit is the issue. If they still say no, stop and suppress them.

### How do you handle the price objection?

Ask what they are comparing the price with, then reframe around the cost of the problem or the total cost over time, not just the sticker price.
