Integrations

Ken + OpenAI Integration

Add your OpenAI API key in Ken to run campaign AI steps on OpenAI models at 0 Ken credits, because OpenAI bills your own account for the tokens.

What the Integration Does

In short Your own OpenAI key runs campaign AI steps on OpenAI models at 0 Ken credits.

Adding a OpenAI key unlocks OpenAI models in the model picker for your campaign AI steps: qualification, personalization, segmentation and rewriting. Steps that run on a OpenAI model use your key, cost 0 Ken credits, and OpenAI bills your account for the tokens.

If your key stops working, Ken runs the step on its default model and charges credits, unless you turn Ken fallback off. Then the step waits until your key works again.

What Syncs

In short One-way: Ken calls OpenAI with your key.

How to Connect OpenAI

In short Connect OpenAI in 4 steps.

  1. Get your OpenAI API key

Create a key on the API keys page of the OpenAI platform (platform.openai.com/api-keys). OpenAI shows the full key only once, so copy it right away.

  2. Open provider keys in Ken

In Ken, go to Settings, then Integrations. Under AI providers, open OpenAI and choose Add key. Only workspace admins can manage provider keys.

  3. Save the key

Paste the key and save. Ken checks that OpenAI accepts the key before storing it.

  4. Pick OpenAI models

In a campaign's AI settings, pick a OpenAI model for qualification, personalization, segmentation and rewriting. Steps on that model run on your key.

Use Cases

In short 3 ways teams use Ken with OpenAI.

  • Run qualification and personalization on the OpenAI models your team already trusts.
  • Keep model spend on your own OpenAI bill and out of Ken credits.
  • Run each agency client workspace on that client's own key.

Limits

In short Your key runs campaign AI steps only (qualification, personalization, segmentation and rewriting). Ken chats do not use it yet.

  • Your key runs campaign AI steps only (qualification, personalization, segmentation and rewriting). Ken chats do not use it yet.
  • With Ken fallback on, a failed key means Ken runs the step on its default model, which can be a different provider, and charges credits.
  • Ken checks that an OpenAI key is valid, not how much balance the account has left.
  • A restricted OpenAI key needs permission to list models (Models: Read), or Ken rejects it.
  • Keys belong to one workspace. Each client workspace needs its own key.
  • Only workspace admins can add, re-check or remove a key.
