Clay Pros

  • Every plan, Free included, has unlimited seats and tables, multi-provider waterfalls and the Claygent AI research agent.
  • Connects to 150+ data and AI providers, and charges no Actions or Data Credits when an enrichment returns no result.
  • You can bring your own data provider and AI keys: those runs skip Data Credits and use 1 Action each.
  • Launch adds job change, company news and social listening signals, plus an email sequencer that sends from Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or SMTP accounts.
  • Growth syncs with CRMs and data warehouses, calls any HTTP API and receives data through webhooks.

Clay Cons

  • HTTP API calls, webhooks and CRM integrations start at Growth: $495 a month billed monthly or $446 a month billed annually.
  • Billing runs on two meters: Actions reset each cycle and cannot be topped up, and Data Credit top-ups cost a 30% premium.
  • The Sequencer is email only, with up to 4 emails per sequence and no LinkedIn, dialer or manual task steps.
  • Each webhook source accepts 50,000 submissions; only Enterprise can auto-delete rows so one webhook keeps receiving data.

Who Is Clay For?

In short Clay is a GTM data platform where sales, marketing and GTM ops teams enrich companies and people from 150+ data and AI providers in tables and workflows, then push the results to CRMs, ad platforms or its own email sequencer.

Pick Clay if one of these is true:

  • You want waterfall enrichment across 150+ data providers with unlimited seats, and no charge when a lookup returns nothing.
  • You already pay for data or AI providers and want to bring your own API keys, so those runs use Actions only.
  • Your RevOps team needs CRM and data warehouse sync next to enrichment in one tool, on the Growth plan.

Is Clay Worth It?

In short Ken's view: worth it for RevOps and GTM engineering teams building data enrichment and CRM workflows, less so for teams that want email and LinkedIn sends in one workflow at a fixed price per step.

Before you buy, check these terms from Clay's pricing page:

  • Two meters: Actions count platform work (1 per enrichment, AI run, export or sequenced lead, under $0.01 each) and Data Credits pay for data and AI bought in Clay's marketplace (from $0.05 each).
  • Launch is $185 a month billed monthly (15,000 Actions for $60 plus 2,500 Data Credits for $125), or $167 a month billed annually ($54 plus $113).
  • Growth is $495 a month billed monthly (40,000 Actions for $205 plus 6,000 Data Credits for $290), or $446 a month billed annually ($185 plus $261).
  • Each meter has its own tier ladder: Actions up to 200,000 a month ($540 on Launch, $850 on Growth, billed monthly) and Data Credits up to 50,000 a month ($2,125 billed monthly). Annual billing saves 10% and grants all credits up front.
  • Actions reset each billing cycle and cannot be topped up; you move to a higher Action tier instead.
  • Unused Data Credits roll over on Launch and Growth: up to 1 month's credits on monthly plans (a bank of up to 2x the monthly amount) and 15% of annual credits on annual plans. One-time or automatic top-ups cost a 30% premium, from 250 credits.
  • No Actions or Data Credits are charged when an enrichment returns no result. Runs on your own provider or AI keys use no Data Credits but still use 1 Action.
  • 14-day trial with 1,000 Data Credits, without phone enrichment. Enterprise: contact sales, custom pricing with an annual commitment.
