ChatGPT MCP: Connect Ken as a Custom MCP Server
ChatGPT on the web adds Ken's remote MCP server as a custom MCP server plugin. Open Plugins, add a custom MCP server with Ken's URL and OAuth, install it, then call it with @ in a chat. Workspace permissions decide who can add one.
How Do You Connect Ken to ChatGPT?
In short Add https://mcp.ken.so/mcp as a remote MCP server in ChatGPT, then sign in to Ken in your browser.
Open ChatGPT Plugins
Go to chatgpt.com/plugins, select the + icon, then choose Add custom MCP server.
Enter Ken's Server
Name it Ken. Under Connection, paste the server URL below as the Server URL. Do not pick Tunnel, which sets up a Secure MCP Tunnel.
https://mcp.ken.so/mcpChoose OAuth
Set authentication to OAuth. Ken supports dynamic client registration, so ChatGPT needs no client ID or secret.
Create and Install the Plugin
Read the risk warning, select I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin. Find Ken under your personal plugins and install it.
Sign In and Use Ken in a Chat
Start a new conversation, type @ in the prompt box and select Ken. When ChatGPT asks you to sign in, your browser opens the Ken sign-in. Sign in with the account you use in the Ken app, then select Allow access on the Ken approval screen. You never paste a client ID or secret.
What Can You Ask Ken From ChatGPT?
In short Ask in plain language. The client picks the Ken tool, and Ken runs it with your workspace role.
| Ask | Ken tool used | What the tool does |
|---|---|---|
| Find VPs of Sales at US software companies with 50 to 200 employees. | search_read | Searches Ken's people and company database and returns filter facets. |
| Which fintech companies in Germany have more than 100 employees? Search Ken's 250M people and 24M companies. | search_read | Searches Ken's people and company database and returns filter facets. |
| Load Ken's campaign-planning skill and plan a 3-step cold email campaign for that list. | load_skill | Loads one Ken workflow skill, such as campaign-planning, into the chat. |
| Which of my campaigns are running right now? | campaigns_read | Lists campaigns and reads one campaign's settings and status. |
| How did my campaigns do this week? Show sends, replies and bounces for each one. | analytics_read | Reads campaign performance, engagement, deliverability and reply classifications. |
| Show me the replies that came in today and summarize each one. | threads_read | Lists inbox threads and reads their messages. |
Admins and members get read and write tools. View-only members get read tools plus inbox replies.
What If Ken Does Not Connect in ChatGPT?
In short Most failures come from a skipped sign-in step or a client setting.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| @ does not list Ken | Install the plugin first, then start a new conversation. ChatGPT only offers installed plugins after @. |
| ChatGPT asks you to confirm every Ken action | ChatGPT confirms write tools by default and treats any tool without a read-only hint as a write. Check the input, then approve or deny it for the rest of the conversation. |
| Ken's tools look out of date | Open Ken's details page in your plugin settings and refresh it so ChatGPT pulls the current tools, then start a new conversation. |
| A Ken tool answers "Missing scope" | Part of the Ken approval screen was declined. Remove Ken from the client, add it again and select Allow access. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as ChatGPT developer mode or connectors?
It is the same idea under a newer name. OpenAI's current docs add custom MCP servers from the Plugins page as plugins. Older guides call them connectors or apps in developer mode.
Can ChatGPT launch or pause campaigns in Ken?
ChatGPT supports read and write tools from custom MCP servers and asks you to confirm each write before it runs. Your Ken role and your ChatGPT workspace settings still decide which actions are allowed.
Does Ken work in the ChatGPT mobile app?
OpenAI's docs describe adding custom MCP servers in ChatGPT on the web. Add Ken there first.
What can ChatGPT change in my Ken workspace?
Only what your Ken role allows. Admins and members get read and write tools, including campaign launches. View-only members get read tools plus inbox replies. Ken checks your role on every call, so a role change applies right away.
The new Ken opens to the waiting list in batches.
