MCP clients
Gemini CLI MCP: Connect Ken
Gemini CLI connects to Ken's remote MCP server over Streamable HTTP. Run gemini mcp add --transport http ken with Ken's server URL, then /mcp auth ken to sign in. Unpaid and Google One users moved to Antigravity CLI on June 18, 2026.
How Do You Connect Ken to Gemini CLI?
In short Add https://mcp.ken.so/mcp as a remote MCP server in Gemini CLI, then sign in to Ken in your browser.
Add Ken as an HTTP Server
Run this in your terminal. --scope user makes Ken available in every project; without it, Gemini CLI saves Ken to the current project only.
gemini mcp add --scope user --transport http ken https://mcp.ken.so/mcpSign In with /mcp auth
Start gemini and run /mcp auth ken. Your browser opens the Ken sign-in. Sign in with the account you use in the Ken app, then select Allow access on the Ken approval screen. You never paste a client ID or secret. Gemini CLI stores the token in ~/.gemini/mcp-oauth-tokens.json.
/mcp auth kenCheck the Connection
Run /mcp. Ken shows CONNECTED when the sign-in worked.
/mcp
Can You Use a Ken API Key Instead of OAuth?
In short Yes. Gemini CLI can send your Ken API key as a Bearer token when a browser sign-in is not an option.
Use a Ken API Key Header Instead
Create a key in the Ken app under Settings > Integrations > API Keys. Add Ken to ~/.gemini/settings.json with httpUrl, which is the Streamable HTTP key, and the key in headers. Use this on a server or over SSH, where Gemini CLI cannot open a browser.
{ "mcpServers": { "ken": { "httpUrl": "https://mcp.ken.so/mcp", "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <KEN_API_KEY>" } } } }
What Can You Ask Ken From Gemini CLI?
In short Ask in plain language. The client picks the Ken tool, and Ken runs it with your workspace role.
| Ask | Ken tool used | What the tool does |
|---|---|---|
| Find VPs of Sales at US software companies with 50 to 200 employees. | search_read | Searches Ken's people and company database and returns filter facets. |
| Which fintech companies in Germany have more than 100 employees? Search Ken's 250M people and 24M companies. | search_read | Searches Ken's people and company database and returns filter facets. |
| Load Ken's campaign-planning skill and plan a 3-step cold email campaign for that list. | load_skill | Loads one Ken workflow skill, such as campaign-planning, into the chat. |
| Which of my campaigns are running right now? | campaigns_read | Lists campaigns and reads one campaign's settings and status. |
| How did my campaigns do this week? Show sends, replies and bounces for each one. | analytics_read | Reads campaign performance, engagement, deliverability and reply classifications. |
Admins and members get read and write tools. View-only members get read tools plus inbox replies.
What If Ken Does Not Connect in Gemini CLI?
In short Most failures come from a skipped sign-in step or a client setting.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| /mcp auth ken never opens a browser | OAuth needs a local browser. It does not work in headless setups or SSH sessions without X11 forwarding. Use the API key header there. |
| Gemini CLI prints MCP issues detected | Run /mcp list to see each server's status and error. Run gemini --debug for more detail. |
| Ken shows Disabled | Run /mcp enable ken, or gemini mcp enable ken from your terminal. |
| A Ken tool answers "Missing scope" | Part of the Ken approval screen was declined. Remove Ken from the client, add it again and select Allow access. |
Frequently Asked Questions
Should Ken use url or httpUrl in settings.json?
httpUrl. In Gemini CLI, url is the SSE endpoint key and httpUrl is the Streamable HTTP key, which is the transport Ken's server uses.
Does this work in Antigravity CLI?
Gemini CLI's docs say unpaid and Google One users were moved to Antigravity CLI on June 18, 2026. This page covers Gemini CLI only. Check Antigravity's own docs for its MCP setup.
What do Ken's tools look like inside Gemini CLI?
Gemini CLI names MCP tools mcp_<server>_<tool>, so Ken's people search shows up as mcp_ken_search_read.
What can Gemini CLI change in my Ken workspace?
Only what your Ken role allows. Admins and members get read and write tools, including campaign launches. View-only members get read tools plus inbox replies. Ken checks your role on every call, so a role change applies right away.
The new Ken opens to the waiting list in batches.
