Connect Ken to Windsurf (Devin Desktop) with MCP

Windsurf, now Devin Desktop, connects to Ken's remote MCP server. Add Ken's server URL to ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json, the user MCP file in Devin's docs, then sign in to Ken in your browser. A Ken API key header also works.

How Do You Connect Ken to Windsurf?

In short Add https://mcp.ken.so/mcp as a remote MCP server in Windsurf, then sign in to Ken in your browser.

  1. Open the MCP Config File

    Open ~/.config/devin/mcp_config.json, or %APPDATA%\devin\mcp_config.json on Windows. In the Cascade panel, the Open MCP config file icon in the MCPs section opens the same file.

  2. Add Ken Under mcpServers

    Paste this entry and save. url is the key both the Cascade docs and the Devin CLI docs accept, and a URL defaults to Streamable HTTP.

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "ken": {
          "url": "https://mcp.ken.so/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  3. Load Ken and Sign In

    In Cascade, press the refresh button in the MCPs section, then sign in when asked. In Devin Local, select Authenticate when Ken shows Needs auth in the MCP list. Your browser opens the Ken sign-in. Sign in with the account you use in the Ken app, then select Allow access on the Ken approval screen. You never paste a client ID or secret.

Can You Use a Ken API Key Instead of OAuth?

In short Yes. Windsurf can send your Ken API key as a Bearer token when a browser sign-in is not an option.

  1. Use a Ken API Key Header Instead

    Create a key in the Ken app under Settings > Integrations > API Keys and add it as a Bearer token in the headers object of the ken entry.

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "ken": {
          "url": "https://mcp.ken.so/mcp",
          "headers": {
            "Authorization": "Bearer <KEN_API_KEY>"
          }
        }
      }
    }

What Can You Ask Ken From Windsurf?

In short Ask in plain language. The client picks the Ken tool, and Ken runs it with your workspace role.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Windsurf the same as Devin Desktop?

Yes. Cognition agreed to acquire Windsurf in July 2025, and Devin's docs say Windsurf became Devin Desktop on June 2, 2026, with only the name and branding changing. windsurf.com now redirects to devin.ai/desktop. Cascade is the legacy agent and Devin Local is the default agent for new tabs.

Does Cascade see Ken's whole tool list?

Cascade has a limit of 100 tools across all MCP servers at any time. Turn off servers you do not use if Ken's tools go missing.

Do Enterprise users need to turn MCP on?

Yes. The docs say Enterprise users must turn MCP on manually in settings before the agent can use any server.

What can Devin Desktop change in my Ken workspace?

Only what your Ken role allows. Admins and members get read and write tools, including campaign launches. View-only members get read tools plus inbox replies. Ken checks your role on every call, so a role change applies right away.

The new Ken opens to the waiting list in batches.
